How do you know whether a person is genuinely criticizing you or using you as a poison recipient into which they intend to crap out frustrations, emotional baggage or self-discontent in order to feel better about his/herself?

Some questions to help us not be sucked in by such persons:

Do they know what you are trying to achieve, are they familiar with your goal(s), have they/are empathetically asked/asking questions prior to offering up a criticism?

Do they boast a significant/deep enough understanding of the methods which you intend to adopt in order to achieve your goal(s)?

Do they have a practical (not theoretical) understanding of the goals you want to achieve?
